"It isn't an easy job to paint oneself, at any rate if it
is to be different from a photograph." -van gogh

Well, no new photos for you yet! Nice-ish wallpaper of the month, though. Curses. The dancer turned out wrong. I like the composition, though. Note to self: practice dance, darnit! Two feiseanna and the big O are coming up!
I had the weirdest dream last night. My dance school was going to have a performance at some weird place. A really big and nice hotel, but in many ways odd-looking. I came out of one of the rooms on a high floor, and I could look down over the railing opposite the room doors into the huge atrium. I opened my dress bag to check on my dress, but it wasn't there. I didn't have my other dress (whatever that was) and I didn't even have a decent blouse and skirt. I think I eventually figured something out to dance in, but I remember seeing my fellow dancers sitting in the hall in their school dresses and feeling so out of place. Sort of the way I feel now at feiseanna, since I'm the only one in my school with a solo dress. I'm happy and proud that I have one, but I feel like I don't really belong. Well, in most of my dreams, I'm being chased by something and don't even know what it is. I wonder which kind is better.

I finally had time to work on a new layout! Yeah. Sushi. So if you're wondering what's going on, I just got a decent amount of sleep for the first time in a week at least. On Thursday night, I got four and a half hours. This might be my first weekend since school started in which I don't have an ungodly pile of homework to do. I might even get to put up some photos... we'll see. Photo editing is so tedious.

You know, I really want to make a new layout for this thing. Maybe something Netscape-unfriendly. I was thinking of doing a sushi theme. Mmmm, sushi. Or more likely, I'll just keep the white and grayscale, 'cause it's a pretty nifty color scheme. Whatever it is, I plan to keep the frames. I might even add another frame, actually

Once again, an evening wasted entirely on homework. I knew AP Euro was a bad idea. Knew it knew it knew it. But I'm a stubborn one, I can make it to the end of the year. I hope. Oh, no, orthodontist appointment tomorrow! How on earth will I do my homework and practice dance before Wednesday? I've got my first Oireachtas in a month and my last planned feis of the year before then! Eeeeeee! Ahem. I should win an award for paranoia. ;) Well, one thing is inarguably scary, and that's going up and over next year. There's a lot more people in the and-over age group, aren't there? Some are many years older than me, too, no? I'll sure miss the small competitions of under 15. That'd be great, if I was forever under 15.

Whee! Iowa State Feis! My first feis in open level! I got third in jig, second in reel, third in slip jig, third in hornpipe, first in treble jig, and nothing in traditional set. Today my family drove home and then I met up with my group for the history project of doom. Worked on it for four and a half hours including breaks. We're still not done! It's due Tuesday! Eeee! And somehow I must craft my English speech tonight and still get enough sleep so that I'm not totally out tomorrow. And for those of you accusing me of procrastination, I wouldn't be in this mess if my history teacher hadn't told us just last Friday when the project was actually due. I officially don't trust that man anymore. My life is basically ruined until Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. Wednesday...

I must practice Irish dance tonight! Tomorrow after school, my family and I will be on the road to Dubuque for the Iowa feis. Which reminds me, I have to pack tonight, too. I'm wondering if I'll win anything there. First time in open level, can't expect much. Actually, at feiseanna, unless I'm really desperate for a particular dance, I'm happy to go home with something. Anything. I think that's how it is with most people.

In English, we have to give a 2-3 minute speech on a classmate. Partners for this were chosen at random. So my partner's speech about me is probably going to be mainly Irish dance-related. It's pretty pathetic. ;) So I had my first Irish dance lesson of the fall session today! Yay! Grrr, I still don't have a slip jig for Oireachtas! I think I'm beginning to like reel better just because I stink at my particular slip jig steps. I love my old steps, but they're more like beginner level. Why couldn't I have reel and hornpipe instead of slip jig and treble jig? Ooh, wait... next year I'll have the ones I like, and I'll have another year's experience besides... Yesh, that's a good thing. Note to self: I hate homework. It takes me way too long to do it. I have no life. Over. ;) Oh, wait! Quote of the day! "Wait, is Ghillie Studio yours?" -Mary at dance class. And quote of yesterday: "Indian food, sushi, and marshmallows" -what I told my English project partner were my favorite foods.

Man, I love Spanish. I'm not sure why. In junior high, we would have Spanish maybe once a week, and all our teachers were very strange. I say "all" because we went through three (I think) in three or four years. The first one kept getting off the subject. The second taught us the most and actually utilized textbook stuff, but got in trouble for teasing a student. The third had a verbal teaching method involving games that were a bit, um, second-grade? All of them had real accents and talked way faster than anyone could be ready for. Then came high school, the first real Spanish I've ever had! Freshman year, I had two teachers, one a bit strict, the other plenty fun but on-subject enough to get us where we should be. Now I'm in Spanish II. I'm getting used to a teacher who doesn't let us fall asleep and who speaks Spanish 90% of the class time. So I should really get rolling now.

Haha. So true.

I've been feeling really lazy lately. Maybe it's just the thought of returning to school tomorrow. Hm, wait... Feis this Saturday! Iowa State! Must practice! Must do homework, too! Eeeeee! I've been sick for a few days now, and it's not fun. I'm not coughing/sneezing continuously, but I still feel generally miserable and I can't think and whenever I talk it sounds weeiiird.

Eh, the comic's taking a long long time to color! There's no real dialogue in in it, so that's a first. And it's eleven frames, so it's more like a manga page than a comic strip. I'm actually making backgrounds! It looks much better than random abstract shapes. It's quite fun, too, playing with lighting effects and all. Oh, and my internet connection's been going wacko. Eeep.
